Improving People's Health
United Way is advancing the common good by targeting Education, Income & Health. These are the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a good job, enough income to support a family through retirement and good health along with healthy relationships. When people do not have the basic building blocks they need for a successful life, it hurts them, their families, and our whole community. Your United Way is focusing on specific issues in our community as they relate to the building blocks.

• Substance abuse: binge drinking, alcohol, drug abuse and smoking |

• Support and shelter programs for victimes of domestic violence |

• Counseling programs for adults and youth involved in substance abuse, or with unplanned pregnancies |

• A healthier and safer community that has reduced the number of abuse cases, underage and binge drinking violations from the numbers recorded in 2010 |

• A community that has services available for those suffering with mental health issues, and counseling programs for individuals or couples dealing with unplanned pregnancies. |

The uninsured and underinsured |

Major Concerns: |

• The high number of uninsured or underinsured families/individuals in our community, especially for vision and dental care. |

• The high cost of prescription drugs for families and seniors. |

• Access to health and dental care for the uninsured and underinsured individuals. |

• Increase the distribution for the Family Wize Prescription Drug discount cards. |

Intended Results: |

• Increase the number of families who have access to healthcare services. |

• Work toward securing increase prescription drug assistance for families and seniors. |

Healthy Nutrition for All |

Major Concerns: |

• Children not getting at least one healthy meal a day, especially during the summer months when they are out of school. |

• Nutritious meals for all, especially for individuals and families who experience food insecurities. |

• Summer lunch programs |
| |
• Senior Citizens Center and Home Delivered Meals programs. |
| |
• Suppor for local food cupboards |

• Increase the access and affordability of food and healthy nutrition. |
